Credits

Nick was responsible for the smoke character design and illustration.

Steven was responsible for the forrest background, and the idea for our animation was derived from his Puna project.

Final Animation

This is our final animation depicting the idea of the sustainability of the world's
forests and wildlife.

Enjoy :)

Sound Elements

We decided that we wanted to have some sound effects introduced into our animation to enforce the mood of what we are trying to portray.

This is the track we chose for the birds flapping movement

This is the sound we chose for when the smoke enters the animation

Smoke Character Elements

Here are the different smoke elements that we are using in our animation to represent pollution. We wanted the smoke to almost play an evil character in our story, so we made it take the shape of flying smoke monsters and skulls.

Here we started of with black inside the skull's mouth, but we decided to take away the black and make it transparent so that we could see the fantail inside the mouth, and then have it fade to black.

Converging Smoke Elements

Here is converging smoke design where the fantail will be overcome by the smoke creeping in from the corners of the screen. We will slowly increase the opacity of each layer in After Effects for when the smoke is coming in, and decrease the opacity as the fantail fans
 the smoke away.

Branch Addition

We added this branch to the background in After Effects for the bird to sit on.

Final Forrest Background

Forrest Background Design Development

Here are some of the developed designs for our forrest background. We also did some where the forrest looks sickly and grey that we could introduce into the animation to add to the idea of pollution.

Final Fantail Design

After some discussion and development we decided on this design for our final fantail, as we thought there was nice detail while still maintaining a cute and cartoony feel.

Workbook development and Ideation

Here we were discussing ways we can introduce the smoke and almost make it into
a evil character.

Here we got some feedback from Matt about our fantail needing a bit more detail, so we did a quick drawing of how we could develop it.

Bird Design Development

After our initial designs we went ahead and drew this developed design in the same 'cute' 'cartoony' style with the different body parts on different layers in order for them to move in After Effects.

Initial Bird Illustrations

These are some of the initial illustrations of our fantail. The idea being that we wanted the bird to be cute and almost disney-like so that people feel sad when the bird is overcome by the smoke.

Bird style Inspiration

After we decided on our animation idea, we did some research on possible design styles that we could implement for our fantail.
